About This Experience

The Level 1 Avalanche Course is essential in developing the skills necessary to travel safely and confidently in avalanche terrain. The Six Points Avalanche Education (SPAE) Level 1 course can be tailored towards, skiers, snowmobilers/snowbikers, or ice climbers. The three-day course (24 hours) focuses on the Six Points of Avalanche Education: Avalanche terrain, mountain snowpack/weather, avalanche forecast & problems, companion rescue, and decision making. This course consists of both classroom and field sessions; SPAE understands the importance of hands on learning and spends 60-70% of the course in the field. Our Level 1 follows the guidelines set by the American Avalanche Association (AAA). Eric is an experienced avalanche educator who provides effective instruction while remaining humble, kind, and approachable. This course provides a great foundation in avalanche education and is a good stepping stone for those who may decide to pursue a higher level of training or the professional track.
